If you're staying in the resort , it makes sense to come here and dine. They have a semi-buffet steamboat package where they will give you some meat and the vegetable on the tables were free flow. Not that cheap but can be forgiven given its location

I am writing this review because there are other reviews that are really not fair! vegetables, meat and fish are really fresh. There is a lot of variety and it is a lot of food. My husband and I were very full and satisfied after this meal. You can also see the chef preparing everything and staff are very friendly and helpful. Thank you we really enjoyed it 🙂

I ordered the meat platter. Soup base was Nabemono (mixed) and Soto (Malay style chicken soup).

Steamboat is semi buffet - meat portions are fixed - the rest of the "cheaper" ingredients like vegetables, beancurds and various noodles and desserts are free flow. The ingredients were fresh and the meat was well cut. My only problem was that they gave us chicken breast =(

Nabemono soup base was rather authentic. Unfortunately the Soto soup base was underwhelming and the flavour lacked depth - just plain salty - which was strange considering Soto being a local dish (?).

Overall, MYR 75 goes towards the super friendly and warm service, along with al fresco dining, I mean you are literally having steamboat next to a jungle. Rather worthwhile if you are looking for quality steamboat and have a few bucks to spare.

Boring and bad hotpot experience ever at this restaurant,pricey not worthy to visit.
salty msg soup based(tom yam soup is using tom yam sauce paste not spicy is like plain) , small portion of meat ,fishball taste weird ,no chilies sauce or any sauce , in addition dint serve beef slides which is inside the menu.
Spoiled my night for my travel at this hotel,my throat feeling not well after have my dinner here.
Service is good but not the foods.

Had a wonderful steamboat dinner here a few days ago with my wife and daugther The portions were nicely balanced, the soup base was delightful, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The cherry on top was the impeccable table service by Hossain and his crew. Hossain's service alone is worth at least two Michelin stars.

Excellent place for a delightful dinner with adult family and friends if you are staying at the Cameron Highlands Resort or visiting the area. The restaurant has a special Instagrammable atmosphere, the high quality food is fresh, and the service is friendly and attentive. I have stayed at this resort at least once per year for 8 years -- it is another beautiful and different part of Malaysia -- and my first dinner is always at Gonbei. You get an assortment of proteins and vegetables, plus 3 noodle types and desert. For adults, there is also a very nice alcohol menu. Try not to compare this steamboat to other places in Kuala Lumpur and shopping malls that cater to big crowds. This is boutique hotel-level dining that focuses on the quality of food and experience. Think intimate, low density. This restaurant is great for connecting with your fellow diners while "cooking" and enjoying the food together. The Cameron Highlands Resort is a beautiful hotel and Gonbei is a fitting dining experience inside the hotel. Over the years, I've enjoyed seeing Mr Hossain the manager, who greets me and takes care of my family and friends with charm and professionalism. Another special reason for dining here and leaving satisfied and heavier.

Service is excellent and super friendly, you re greeted with local tea before ordering. Hotpot is great with a huge variation of components and you can always request more of what you like most with now extra cost. Desert was also really good. Staff were contiously helping and checking if anything is needed without making any intrusion. Def recommend
