Ipoh Tong Sui Kai offers an authentic and delicious late-night hawker experience. Highlights include the creamy, richly flavoured Curry Noodle (especially at popular stalls like No. 26), and a satisfying Satay selection with yummy & soft meat, often paired with BBQ wings. The Fried Kway Teow is a solid choice for its 'wok hei' flavour, and the famously pungent Smelly Tofu provides a quintessential, crispy street food adventure, all available from evening until late. You must have a strong stomach!

Headed to "Tong Shui Gai" to try the eateries we eyeballed and "bookmarked" the night before!

The Rojak was very similar to our "Fruits Rojak" in Singapore, but they use Crackers instead of YouTiao, which was an interesting difference! They also drizzle a little Sesame Oil onto their Pidan, which actually ate well too!

The other we tried here was their Curry Pig Skin Chee Chong Fun. Overall, not too different from what you would get back home. Simple and the "noodles" were silky.

Lastly, [MrQ Chow Tofu] Smelly Tofu 😍. We could smell this from a distance away! And even though we were stuffed from dinner, we had to have one. This fella is a maestro in his own right. He does it Taiwanese style, but he fries his absolutely aromatic and fragrant tofu cubes in 2 ways. ½ with a crisp outside but with still a soft pillowy interior, and another just crispy. The chilli has a kick and those pickled cabbage on top of everything helps balance out the grease, and stench of the star!

The place is old and a bit quiet during Monday cos lots of the hawkers choose to rest on Monday. The place isn’t that conducive and hygiene can be improved a great deal. Selections of food is pretty good but neither of them standout against others. Would come back here next time during some weekend or holiday season to enjoy better vibe.

Ipoh Tong Sui Gai is really more about the lively atmosphere than anything else. Tried the mixed fruit ice at stall 27 — for RM11 the portion was generous, and though it usually comes with a scoop of ice cream, we skipped it. Stall 28’s grilled squid was a tasty snack to munch on while chatting, and Miss Rabbit’s satay was juicy and not dry at all, though the peanut sauce could have been better. Overall, fun spot if you’re here for the vibes and variety.

Stall 26 Curry Noodles (My26 CurryMee) - I had one of the best curry noodles in Ipoh tonight. The broth was rich, creamy, and full of flavor—just the right balance for someone like me who can’t handle overly spicy food but still enjoys a little kick. The curry came generously loaded with big, juicy cockles, which were absolutely delicious.

What impressed me even more was the service. The owner was incredibly attentive—she went around offering free refills of the curry broth and genuinely made sure every customer was well taken care of. When she noticed I was wearing a white shirt, she thoughtfully handed me a plastic bib to protect it from splashes.

Tong Sui Kai provides a pretty authentic street food experience for Ipoh. We came back twice to have the same items even though our trip to Ipoh was a short one. Our favourites were the iced Aiyu jelly dessert from stall 27 and the chicken satay. The chicken satay I dare say were better than the ones we had in Penang recently. The ones here were succulent, tender good portion, were well marinared & had a nice char.

We noticed that as long as desserts or drinks are ordered where you are seated, food items can be ordered from any stalls. It was a pleasant eating experience when it was 3 or when we had 5 persons. We paid in cash for our order and staff deliver it to the table. Drinks and desserts are ordered from the table. For hot food items, we ordered from the stall itself.

Overall, a good eating experience here.

Plenty of variety at Tong Sui Kai, though not all stalls were open when we visited on a Sunday night. We only tried dessert, and it was a refreshing treat for a hot evening. It was easy to get a table, but the stall we sat at didn’t have the fan on, the owner said it was broken, so it felt quite humid.

I was a little worried about the hawkers bickering over seating and ordering. If you are a local I reckon it is not as scary; but as a tourist in Ipoh, that "culture" was a little scary.

With the benefit of "local expertise" we found great seating in the back and away from the maddening crowd- nice.

The desserts were delightful and servings were generous, hence good value for money.
